  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar; stir until blended. Stir in oil, cream, and water. Knead to make a soft dough; turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly. Dough will be a bit sticky. Cover with dish cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Heat about 3 inches of oil in a heavy saucepan or deep fryer to 375°F. Roll dough into a rectangle about 12 x 9 inches and 1/8-inch thick. Cut into 3-inch squares. Carefully add squares to the hot oil, 2 or 3 at a time. If necessary, use a fork to press down into the oil so they'll puff. Fry until golden brown, turning once. Drain well.
  • To serve, sprinkle the sopaipillas with cinnamon sugar and drizzle honey over them.
