  • Flour the meat, salt and pepper and brown in a little hot oil. Put in a glass baking dish.
  • Cut the onions in rings and shake in a plastic bag with flour. Brown for a few minutes in the same pan you browned the meat. Let a fair amount of the flour get in with the onions, you may have to add a little more oil. Put the onions and flour from the pan on top of the meat and cover with the tomato juice.
  • Cover the pan and bake at 200 degrees F for 3 hours, then 300 degrees F for 2-3 more hours.


This method will produce a thick gravy for mashed potatoes if you like.
