Serve hot plain, with whipped cream, or ice cream.
This is a very flexible recipe. You can use half apples and half pears. If you want to use all pears, keep in mind that they will cook down more than apples do and have very little texture.
Or you can use three cups of blueberries or three cups of pitted cherries. Use almond extract instead of vanilla if you use the cherries.
You could also use cans of pie filling, if you choose. Don't use rhubarb, unless you like things sour!
