  • Sautee onion in butter, when almost clear. Add in chilies (juice included). Let the two ingredients heat together for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Then on medium/low heat, add cream of mushroom soup and the picante sauce. Stir well and begin adding in the Kraft American cheese. The smaller it is cubed, the quicker it will melt. Be sure to add the cheese last so that it is less likely to burn.
  • Last, add a few pinches of garlic powder. If too thick, add a little milk. Serve with rolled flour tortillas or chips. Enjoy!

Special Equipment Needed


The trick to this is to prepare it all in the same pot so that the flavor blends well. Every time I prepare this the bowl has been "licked clean!" It is even better when it can sit up for a little while so that the flavors can really come together. (If you are using chips, try to get unsalted or lightly salted because the salt might overpower the sauce.) This is a great recipe to experiment with ~ Hotter, add spicier picante sauce and/or chilies. It is also great with fajita meat or taco meat added to it, and is a great sauce for a chicken spaghetti con queso!
