  • In a 1-quart saucepan, heat cream over medium heat. Add 14 ounces of chocolate. Heat, stirring, until melted and smooth. Add malt powder; stir until blended. Refrigerate mixture 2 to 4 hours, until thickened. Whip at high speed until fluffy.
  • Meanwhile, prepare chocolate cups: Melt remaining 8 ounces chocolate in top double boiler over hot water or in microwave oven, following package directions. Spoon 1 tablespoon chocolate into each of 48 mini muffin papers. With spoon, spread chocolate coating up sides of papers; or use a paint brush it is easier. Chocolate will set up (harden) in 10-15 minutes.
  • When chocolate cups have hardened, fill with malt-truffle filling, either by spooning mixture into cups or piping it through a pastry bag using a large star tip. If desired, top candies with holiday sprinkles. Store in a cool place.

Special Equipment Needed


Chocolate almond bark is available in supermarkets; it comes in 24-ounce packages and is divided into 12 (2 ounce) squares. Chocolate coating is available in wafer form at cake and candy supply stores. Malted milk powder can be found at grocery stores in the aisle with the hot-chocolate mixes. It comes in both chocolate and vanilla flavors. This candy can be made with either chocolate or vanilla malted milk powder.
