  • Preheat oven to 375o F. Mix dry ingredients thoroughly. Cut in shortening (1/3 at a time if making more than one batch). Mix in milk. If dough is too dry, add more milk a few drops at a time until moist, but not wet.
  • Roll dough out to 1/4 in. thick and cut with biscuit cutter or floured glass or drop dough onto ungreased cookie sheet in large clumps. Cook 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Special Equipment Needed


When adding shortening, clean hands work even better than a pastry cutter. When rolling out dough, make sure counter or cutting board is clean, dry, and well floured. Knead with floured hands before rolling out but not too long or dough will get tough. For 2 batches, still just one tsp. salt may be used for lower sodium.
