  • Soak beans overnight in cold water; drain, rinse and discard water.
  • In a small saucepan combine molasses, mustard, brown sugar, tomatoes, bay leaves, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, corn syrup and 2 1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil and whisk till the sugar has dissolved.
  • Place onion in the bottom of a heavy Dutch oven. Transfer soaked beans to Dutch oven, then pour in molasses mixture. Stir, then spread slices of bacon over beans and cover with lid. The liquid should cover beans by 1/2"; add more water if necessary; cover.
  • Bake in 300 oven, without stirring, until the beans are tender and the liquid thickened, about 5 to 6 hours. Check the beans occasionally, adding more hot water if necessary to keep beans slightly soupy at all times. Season with salt and pepper before serving, if necessary.
