  • Trim beef cubes of external fat and brown in large non-stick pot.
  • Add all other ingredients plus 4 cups (1 L) water and bring to a boil.
  • Cover and reduce heat to simmer, cooking for about 2 hours until beef and barley are tender. Remove bay leaf. Serve sprinkled with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.

This was actually a lot easier to make than I thought it was going to be. I made two 11 x 7 pans and froze one. I also added some garlic powder to the cheese mixture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good recipe. Very good recipe. I used whole wheat lasagna noodles & fat free ricotta with great results. However, there was no way 16 lasagna noodles would work. I used 8 with ease.
