  • 1. Mix food coloring and cocoa and let stand.
  • 2. Cream butter & sugar--add eggs one at a time and add to above mixture.
  • 3. Sift together salt, baking soda, and cake flour. Add to creamed mixture alternating with buttermilk.
  • 4. Stir in vanilla and vinegar-do not beat.
  • 5. Pour batter into 2 greased and paper-lined and floured 9 " cake pans or 3 8" pans.
  • 6. Bake on 350°F for 20-25 minutes in 8" pans or 30 minutes for 9" pans.
  • Icing:
  • 1. Cook flour and milk in saucepan until thickened and then let cool.
  • 2. Combine confectioner's sugar, salt, vanilla, and butter; beat.
  • 3. Add two mixtures together and frost cake when cool.
  • --Or you can just buy a butter cream frosting....which is much easier :)
