  • 1. Prepare cake mix according to the instructions on the box.
  • 2. Let the cupcakes cool for 20-25 minutes.
  • 3. Using a butter knife, cut a small circle in the top of the cupcake (about the size of a quarter and about 1 inch in thickness) KEEP THE CIRCLE YOU CUT OUT
  • 4. Fill in with frosting where you cut out a hole, fill until you have filled to the top of the hole (use one color/flavor to fill in the hole)
  • 5. Frost the top of the cupcake all over as you would a cake (use a different flavor/color to frost the top)
  • 6. Take the circle that you cut out and cut it in half, so now you have 2 semi-circles.
  • 7. Put the 2 halves on top of the cupcake where you cut out the hole, but position them at an angle so they stand up like butterfly wings.
  • 8. Enjoy!!!


It is better to use two different flavor frostings. It is always a nice surprise to find a different flavor frosting in the center of the cupcake.
