  • In a large skillet, brown the hamburger, drain. Add the diced onions and green peppers and cook for approximately 1-2 minutes.
  • While the meat, peppers, and onions are cooking; dissolve the bouillon cubes in 1 cup of hot water.
  • In a large soup kettle, combine the stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, and beans. Add the diced garlic, oregano, chili powder, and parsley to the meat mixture. Mix well and then add to the soup kettle. Stir until completely mixed. Then salt and pepper to taste. You can also use Mrs. Dash's Italian seasoning in place of salt and pepper. Add the dissolved bouillon and cabbage to the soup. Stir. Add water until you reach the thickness of the soup that you desire. Cook until the cabbage is done. This can take 1-2 hours.

Fresh herbs are always best to use. An easy way to do that is by having a small herb garden in your kitchen window. All you need are some small pots, dirt and seeds. The give and excellent aroma to your kitchen and will grow well. If you are watching your salt intake, you can use items that are low in sodium or have no sodium at all. Mrs. Dash makes some excellent seasonings that complement this recipe; such as the Italian Seasoning. This is a good soup to make extra of and freeze. It freezes well and is wonderful to reheat in the microwave after a cold day in the snow. It is best served with fresh homemade bread.
