  • Place chicken with salt and pepper in 2qts. of water - cook until tender - let cool (reserve stock). Cut into small cubes.
  • Dumplings: Mix 3 cups of flour, baking powder, salt and shortening together. Add milk, water and egg. This will make a sticky paste. Turnout on floured board and knead remaining flour until it becomes a large ball. Roll out thin and cut into small strips.
  • Heat stock to a boiling point. Drop strips into stock and place lid on pot. Turn off heat and leave covered for 25 minutes. Add chicken. Do not stir, just shake the pot.


If you peek, the dumplings will be gooey.
