  • Brown the burger until just about done, then add the diced onions and finish browning. Drain the grease and put mixture into your large crock-pot.
  • Add the remaining ingredients (except cheese). Cook on low all day.
  • One half hour before you are ready to eat, sprinkle all the cheese on top. Serve with cornbread or crackers.

Special Equipment Needed


It usually doesn't take a whole 1/2 hour to melt the cheese. I usually get home from work, put the cheese on top of the chili, change into comfy clothes, set the table, and put a load of laundry into the washer. By then, everyone is settled in for the night to enjoy dinner together, watch t.v., and when the kids were young, they would do their homework at the kitchen table while I washed the dishes. They are all grown up now and have kids of their own. I really miss those days of hot chili and an occasional snowball fight!
