  • Preheat oven 350. Melt stick of butter in a 13x9-inch pan - do not burn the butter. (Put pan in oven while it is preheating, then add butter while you mix the first two ingredients.)
  • Mix brown sugar & eggs in a bowl. Slowly add melted butter, flavoring, and gradually add flour. Add nuts or leave out if you just want vanilla flavoring. This mix will be a bit thick. Scrape bowl right into warm pan. You can shake the pan a little, but you will NOT need to spread out - chew bread is self-leveling.
  • Bake approx 25-30 minutes depending on your oven. If you overbake, you will burn it! You will also make it very tough.

Special Equipment Needed


You can cut this up neatly or break it after it cools a bit. The texture tends to be a bit chewy. Have plenty of cold milk on hand - it goes rather well with warm chew bread. Warning - this stuff served warm will never yield a single piece for yourself! Prepare to make another batch!!
