  • Bring water to a boil.
  • While waiting for water to boil mix sugar, cocoa and flour together in a bowl.
  • After water has starts boiling, stir in remaining ingredients. Keep stirring until mixture is to desired thickness and then remove from heat.

Notes

This is a favorite at our house. We usually have "made from scratch" biscuits with it. We crumble our biscuits into our bowls and pour gravy over it with a dab of butter on top.

    This is a great old recipe! I have not mad this in years but will do so again soon! What a great breakfast and the kids love it! I have not seen this since I was "down south" about 8 years ago with my Dad.

    My grandmother also makes this recipe, except she uses milk instead of water and it all goes in to a skillet on the stove at once. It is fabulous over homemade buttermilk biscuits drenched in butter.
