  • In medium mixing bowl, combine boiling water, oats, butter, and slightly beaten eggs. Let stand 5 minutes not stirring. Then, stir lightly and add brown sugar, granulated sugar and stir 1 minute.
  • In separate mixing bowl combine, flour, salt, soda, and cocoa. Using a slow mixing, add these dry ingredients, a little at a time just until well combined to the other wet mixture. Now add 1/2 of the chocolate chips, stir in carefully.
  • Quickly pour into 9x13" baking dish and sprinkle the remaining chips and the walnuts over the top.
  • Move pan to a preheated oven of 350 degrees and bake approx. 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick in center test is not gooey.

Special Equipment Needed

This cake can easily be used in a bundt pan (Large). Has a somewhat brownie consistency, depending on the amount of stirring you choose. Less stirring, more brownie consistency. You make the choice. More stirring will make a higher, lighter cake. I like to sprinkle with pwd. sugar while cake is still warm from the oven. Some family members will leave out the nuts and frost. Serve warm with coffee or as my children and grandchildren like, hot out of the oven with lots of milk!!!!
