  • Cream butter, add sugar, vanilla and egg. Beat until light and fluffy. Add dry ingredients.
  • Divide dough into 2 equal parts; add chocolate to one half of dough, leave remaining half white. Chill until firm enough to roll, at least 2 hours.
  • Roll white dough on floured surface to form about a 9 X 12 rectangle. On waxed paper, roll chocolate dough to same size. Invert chocolate dough onto white dough and pull off paper. Press gently with rolling pin. Roll up tightly from the long side, to form a log. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill overnight in fridge.
  • Slice 1/8" thick and bake in preheated 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Transfer from cookie sheet to rack to cool.

Special Equipment Needed


These cookies are SO yummy! They look very pretty too. You can substitute 1/2 tsp. red food coloring and 1/2 cup crushed candy cane for the chocolate if you like peppermint pinwheels. The dough freezes very well. Great for a quick treat when holiday guests arrive.
