  • Lay bread on the counter. Spread both sides lightly with butter. Stack slices 2 or 4 high. Cut into 1/2 inch (12 mm) cubes. Arrange on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 300 F (150 C) for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Stir ocassionally while browning. If you prefer, you can stir-fry these to brown.

Notes

Parmesan Croutons: Sprinkle both sides of buttered bread with grated parmesan. Run a knife over the bread after each sprinkle. Seasoned Croutons: Mix 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt with the butter before buttering the bread. Garlic Croutons: Mix 1/2 tsp. garlic salt with the butter before buttering the bread. Herb Croutons: Mix 1/4 tsp. each of garlic powder, whole oregano, thyme, and sweet basil with butter before buttering the bread.
