The timing and amount served may vary. I have never actually timed this recipe and the number of people served has varied, based on how much each person served themselves and how many people show up.
This is the casserole I often take when I have to "bring a dish to pass".
Also it can be done "stove-top" or prepared and kept in a slow cooker to keep warm (on low).
I have used ground beef, instead of Italian sausage or sometimes both (1/2 lb. each). If I don't use sausage, I add 1-2 tsp. ground fennel. I have also tossed in diced pepperoni; basically any pizza topping will do in this recipe.
If you like it spicy, add crushed red peppers, to taste. This is a very adjustable recipe.
