  • Peel core and dice apple thinly. Heat butter in a small non-stick skillet. Add apples, sugar, butter, flour, and cinnamon. Sugar and cinnamon vary to taste. Cook on medium heat until thick and bubbly, about 20 minutes.
  • In the mean time, mix up cake batter according to box. Spread half of the batter in greased 8x8 pan. When the apples are bubbly let cool slightly. Drop half of them by spoonfuls on top of the cake batter then sprinkle with half of the crumb mixture. Drop spoonfuls of batter on top and top with the remaining crumb mixture, and then drop remaining apples by spoonfuls on top. Use a knife to swirl large circles through the batter, but do not mix to well. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.

You basically follow the instructions on the box but add the apples to layers as well.
