  • Place the can in a pot of simmering water that is as high as possible but comes no higher than 1/2 inch from the top of the can. You will need to refill the water several times or the milk will burn.
  • Test the milk periodically by pouring a small amount out of the punched holes after about 3 hours to verify it is the desired consistency. It usually takes 3 hours for soft and 4 hours for firm Dulce.
  • When ready, carefully remove the can with tongs or mitts and let it cool until you can touch it.
  • While it is still warm, pour contents into small bowl and whisk large chunks together with the softer sauce to allow to homogenize. Allow to chill completely and enjoy!

Special Equipment Needed


*The end result will be about 2/3 the amount you start out with. So if you'd like 6 oz. of Dulce de Leche make sure you pick out a 9 oz.+ can. To prevent the can from rattling in the water (which can be annoying when you consider that it'll need to be in there for several hours) put a rag under the can.
