  • After prepping meat and vegetables, begin preparing rice according to package instructions. While waiting for the rice water to boil, pour a little oil into a large skillet or Dutch oven. Let the oil get warm, then add the onion and garlic and saute until soft. Add the meat and a generous splash of soy sauce.
  • Saute the meat, stirring occasionally, until it is uniformly white / gray. It will have a slight golden tone from the soy sauce.
  • By this time, the rice should be done. Transfer the rice to the pot with the meat mixture, add another splash of soy sauce and black pepper to taste, and mix the rice with the meat until it is uniformly golden. Let the rice saute with the meat for a couple of minutes, then serve.


1 cup uncooked rice will make 3 cups cooked rice, which is just enough for this recipe. Do not add any fat to the rice. Put thawed pork in freezer for 15-20 minutes for easier cutting. You can always add more vegetables, but we prefer this dish just as it is. This is an old family recipe--my grandmother has been preparing it for at least 50 years, and she got it from her sister-in-law! Guaranteed flavor winner!
