Add mixed dried fruit and nuts for budget fruit cake.
This is a recipe given to me by Lillian Torbenson, she said she's had this recipe since the 1930's.
She also ices with chocolate frosting for her family. Does not have to be iced otherwise.
Wonderfully moist, a bit chewy, and not too sweet. My favorite kind of cake. I only had 3/4 cup of raisins, so I made 1/2 the recipe and folded a small handful of coarsely chopped walnuts into the batter. I didn't frost it - it's good plain. Whipped topping would be nice on it. This recipe is already on a card in my recipe box at home. It's going to be baked a lot. :)
