  • Combine sugar, milk, and peanut butter in a large saucepan. Cook on low to medium heat. Bring to soft slow boil. Cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Test fudge by using a cup of cold water. Drop a small amount of fudge by teaspoon into the water. If the syrup forms a soft ball in the water that flattens when removed, it is at soft ball stage. Remove from heat.
  • Add vanilla. Beat fudge with wooden spoon. When fudge loses its shine and turns dull, it is ready to be poured into a 9 x 5 x 3 in. buttered pan. Let cool for 30-45 minutes.
