  • Drain fruit cocktail and crushed pineapple, reserve liquid, and keep separate. Drain mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries.
  • Place fruit in large mixing bowl, (Tupperware mega bowl-42 cup). Add sour cream and mix well. This should be very wet, almost soupy, if not add fruit cocktail liquid. Add coconut and mix well. Add mini marshmallows, and fold in.
  • If this seems dry add your fruit cocktail reserved liquid, and refrigerate overnight for best flavor. Stir about every 4 to 5 hours and check to see if it’s not getting too dry. Keep adding the fruit cocktail liquid until it stays wet. Check about an hour before serving and add liquid if necessary.

Special Equipment Needed


The marshmallows absorb the liquid along with the coconut. If you run out of the fruit cocktail liquid, continue with the pineapple liquid. It takes a lot of liquid. Sometimes I use some of the maraschino cherry juice too - gives a nice pink tint to salad. This is a holiday favorite. Remember to keep some on the side for you, there is never any left. I like to add finely chopped pecans also, gives it a nice rounded out flavor.
