Make It

  • First spray the pan with a nonstick spray. Using a rolling pin roll out the bread slices flat. Then layer them along the bottom and sides of a 9x9 or 8x8 pan. Make sure the pan is covered with the bread. Then set aside (or leave overnight) to harden in the pan.
  • In a pan fry the bacon and onion. After mixture is cooked, pour into a bowl. Then begin to cook the spinach in the pan. (This doesn't take long at all to fry -- make sure not to burn the spinach.)
  • Then crack open the eggs and measure to see how many cups it makes. (This is to measure how much heavy cream to use). This can be done the night before and sealed into a container and placed in the fridge overnight if you wish. Once this is done, measure the cream. Pour whipping cream into the eggs and whisk it. Then pour mixture into the pan with the bread. Then add in the cooked spinach, bacon and onion mixture. Stir it all around and mix it all up good trying not to disrupt the bread.
  • Preheat oven to 275°F. Place in oven for 1 and 1/2 hours (It may take a little longer depending on your oven.) Take out of oven and sprinkle the KRAFT cheese over the top generously until it begins to lightly brown. Then remove from oven, set aside a few minutes to cool just a bit, then cut and serve and enjoy.

Special Equipment Needed

The prep for this can be done the night before if you wish to. The bread does work much better when left out flattened in the pan overnight uncovered. If doing the prep the night before you can add the chopped bacon and onion mixture and cooked spinach all in the same container. Just keep the spinach on one side of the container from the bacon/onion mixture. Be sure to measure the egg mixture so you will be able to make sure you have equal amount of heavy whipping cream and whisk together in a bowl before adding to the baking pan on top of the bread. You can also add any other veggies you might think would be good.
