  • Grease and flour oblong cake pan. Mix first 5 ingredients with a spoon and pour into cake pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 45 minutes. Poke holes in top of cake with a fork.
  • While cake is baking, mix the butter or margarine, 1 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup of canned milk in a pot on the stove. While stirring let mixture come to a rolling boil for 4 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Add nuts, coconut and vanilla. Stir and pour on cake while both are hot.


My Grandmother use to make this cake, I started making it 43 years ago. You have to stir the topping constantly while it is boiling or it will boil over on to the stove. I hope everyone enjoys this cake as much as we do, leave it in the pan.

Until today I had misplaced my recipe and 'happened upon' this exact recipe from SharonABC. For a variation: I've sometimes left out the coconut and pecan step. Either way, let your tastebuds lead the Way. Grandkids love poking the holes (with fork) into the baked warm cake prior to Me pouring topping on the cake. Enjoy!
