  • Rinse rice. Place in 2-qt saucepan with 4 cups water and 1 tsp salt. Bring to a boil, simmer covered about 45 minutes. Drain.
  • Melt butter in saucepan. Saute onion. Blend in flour, gradually stir in broth. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • Stir in rice, salt, ham and carrots. Simmer 5 minutes. Blend in half-and-half. Heat to serving temperature.
