  • Dissolve yeast and 1 Tbsp. sugar in 1/4 cup warm (115 degree) water until raised. Mix all dry ingredients in bowl. Cut in softened butter. Add beaten eggs, 1 cup warm milk (115), vanilla, lemon rind, and raised yeast. Using dough hooks knead dough until thoroughly mixed and well kneaded. Place in greased bowl and let rise until double (approx. 1 hour).
  • Punch dough down. Add raisins and almonds and knead in. Divide dough into 12 pieces: 6 pieces weighing 6 oz. each and 6 pieces weighing 3 oz. each. Braid three larger pieces and place on greased or parchment lined baking sheet. Braid 3 smaller pieces and place on top. Repeat with remaining dough. Let raise again until double.
  • Bake in 350 degrees F oven for 50-60 minutes. Brush with beaten whole egg after 30 minutes. Cover with foil if getting too brown.
