  • Prepare JELL-O as directed on the back of the box. Do NOT use the quick set method. Once JELL-O has been made, use half of the Jell-O liquid to fill the wine glasses. They should be each filled about 1/3 full. Carefully place the 1/3 full wine glasses in the fridge (and make sure they won't get accidentally knocked over!)
  • Return to the remaining Jell-O liquid (it should be in a bowl). Slowly add COOL WHIP to the Jell-O. Use a wire whisk to mix it together with the Jell-O. (You won't use all of the Cool Whip.) Add one large spoonful of Cool Whip at a time to make sure it is thoroughly mixed with the Jell-O. The amount of Cool Whip that is to be added to the Jell-O will depend on how much Jell-O liquid you have in the bowl. A good hint of when you don't need anymore Cool Whip is when the mixture has texture and is not liquidy looking anymore (it will be slightly lumpy and thick). Also, the color won't be as dark as the Jell-O liquid - rather it will be a pastel color. Once you have finished adding the Cool Whip and have incorporated it with the Jell-O, place it in the fridge.
  • Check back on the Jell-O in the wine glasses periodically. You don't want the Jell-O to completely set, however you don't want to rush it either. Check back every 45 minutes to an hour (or when you notice it's almost ready check back more often). The Jell-O will be ready for the next step when you can (gently and carefully!) slightly tilt the wine glass and the Jell-O doesn't run up the side. You will see the middle of the Jell-O move, but the sides will stay put. Once the Jell-O in the wine glasses is to that point, take all 4 out of the fridge along with the Jell-O/Cool Whip mixture. Carefully spoon the Jell-O/Cool Whip mixture over the Jell-O in the wine glasses. (You may have to stir the Jell-O/Cool Whip mixture if it has set too long and is lumpy - just make sure to stir it in the bowl before it's in the glasses). Distribute the mixture among the 4 wine glasses evenly. When finished, place the wine glasses back in the fridge so they can fully set (check on it in an hour or so if you want to have it right away).
  • When the Jell-O is completely set it will be firm like Jell-O ;) Immediately before serving, spray whipped cream on the top and garnish with a maraschino cherry!

Special Equipment Needed

This dessert looks like it came from a fancy restaurant when it is served in wine glasses with a cherry on the top! It will definately create conversation at your next party when your guests see the 3 layers through the glass - for example with the cherry Jell-O you will see white on top (whipped cream), light pink in the middle (Jell-O and Cool Whip), and bright red on the bottom (Jell-O). Kids also love this JellO-ey treat and they love making it as well since it is so easy! You can use any flavor, however I have found that cherry, black cherry, and raspberry have the best results.
