Make It

  • Mix margarine and cream cheese until blended. Add dry ingredients. Mix well - (my grandma always used her hands! Be sure to wash them first!)
  • Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
  • When ready to roll out dough, make filling. Mix walnut meats and sugar then add milk slowly. You do not need to use all the milk, or you may need to use a bit more. Filling should be moist, but not wet.
  • Take out dough in 1/4 portions to roll. Roll out on light dusting of confectioners’ sugar and cut into 2 X 2 squares. Place about a tsp. of filling in the center of each square and fold two opposite corners over so that they overlap in the middle of the square forming a long diamond shape.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 15 - 20 minutes. After baking, remove from cookie sheet and sprinkle with additional confectioners' sugar while still warm, but not hot.

Special Equipment Needed

These are the most wonderful cookies. My grandmother handed this down and we use it every year. The kids LOVE to mix the dough with their hands and my gram used to say that that was how her hands stayed so smooth and soft! This is so simple and easy yet produces a very pretty complex looking cookie. A true hit at parties or carry-ins.
