  • Combine sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and rind. Blend in egg yolks. Pour into pastry shell.
  • Beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar & sugar (add sugar just 1 Tbsp. gradually). Beat until peaks form. Pile over the filling gently.
  • Bake @325 for 12-15 minutes or until meringue is just golden brown.


This was our beloved Nanny's favorite pie -especially in summer. Sometime she would use lime juice & a little green coloring, thus "key lime" (a little coloring means stick end of toothpick in green cake color & them swirl it into the filling mixture for just a little color).

    I made this pie and gave some to my neighbor and she said it was the best lemon meringue pie she had ever eaten. I was afraid it wouldn't be tangy enough, but it was. So easy to make and very few ingrediants needed. I used a regular pie crust. A keeper for sure.
