When I was growing up this was "the cake" that was at every family gathering, if Grandma didn't make it my mom or an aunt did! When I got old enough to help I was told that only 2 things could goof it up - not using Miracle Whip, and you can't use a mixer. We always had it with a brown sugar/maple frosting. Oh the memories!!!
This cake is fantastic, it stays very moist .Try cream cheese frosting with it if you want frosting but, its even great without frosting.. ..
