  • Mix beef, rice, onion and egg in large bowl. Boil cabbage whole in a large pan peeling off leaf by leaf. Roll beef mixture into tennis size balls. Press into cabbage leafs at the top [core end]. Roll up while folding in as you roll, and repeat.
  • In a large baking pan layer first 1 can sauerkraut, 1can tomatoes, 1 cup ham, and then lay rolls down on the top. Repeat with all and top with kraut, tomato and ham.
  • Bake at 350°F for 2 hours 45 minutes.


You should have two rolls of 12 and there 2 per serving. I was passed this on from my grandfather from Poland and when I make this I have a list of family and friends claiming their share. Also great for potlucks!!

    Excellent! Wonderful! Mixing the sauerkraut & ham with the cabbage roll gives this dish all the flavor it needs. Added bonus- It helped me recover from a bad cold. Just the type of recipe everyone longs to add to their gems! Can't thank you enough for sharring it!
