  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine flours, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine meal. Stir in oats and walnuts. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Stir just until blended.
  • On lightly floured surface pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Use a 3 inch cookie cutter dipped in flour to cut out scones. Place 1 inch apart on baking sheet. Brush tops of scones with beaten egg.
  • Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until scones are lightly brown.
