  • Preheat oven at 350 degrees F. In zippered plastic bag mix flour, salt, pepper and garlic salt. Add steak and shake until thoroughly coated. Fry in 3 Tbsp. hot oil until seared brown. Remove from pan.
  • In Dutch oven heat remaining 2 Tbsp. oil; add garlic, green pepper, celery and onion. Cook until brown. Add tomatoes, soy sauce and soup base (diluted in the hot water). Add steak and mix.
  • Cover and bake for 1 1/4 hours, until meat is tender. Let stand 10 minutes and serve.


This was my beloved Grandmother's (who owned her own catering business) recipes and one of my favorite meals for her to cook while I visited with her as a kid. Her personal notes on the recipe were: "Freezes beautifully. I freeze portions separately and freeze them for a quick on the go meal!"

    This recipe was easy to make. I added one bay leaf and instead of beef soup base I used one beef bouillon cube and two cups of water. I also used a pot on top of the stove,which mami44 did and it did work just as well. Excellent!! My family loved it!!

    This reminded me alot of what my Mom use to make. Thank you for adding this recipe in here. I just added one bay leaf and also used a pot ontop of the stove which worked just as well. Very good! My husband loved it!
