  • Preheat oven broiler. Adjust oven rack to the second highest position.
  • Open rye and place on cookie sheet or jellyroll pan. Mix the last three ingredients in a small bowl. Put about one rounded teaspoon of mixture on each rye slice and spread to the edges. Usually takes about a loaf.
  • Place under broiler for about one minute. Watch carefully as it will brown very quickly. You just want it to bubble up.

Special Equipment Needed


Ingredients can be made a day ahead and refrigerated until ready to use. My family and friends cannot get over the taste. Taste similar to a pizza and it's vegetarian. My husband does not care for mayo, parmesan cheese or fresh onion, but he loves these little bites. Not sure where I found this recipe, but I have had it for over 25 years.
