To cook pasta:
1. Bring water (salt is optional) to a rapid boil using approximately 1 quart of water for each 4 ounces of dry penne rigate.
2. Add penne rigate.
3. Return water to a rapid boil. Cook uncovered approximately 10 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
4. Drain. For salads and baked dishes, rinse in cold water. To pour over sauce, rinse in hot water.
