  • Mix together 1-step angel food cake mix following the directions on the box. Mix remaining ingredients together and gradually fold into the cake mixture ¼ cup at a time using a spoon or a wire whisk. Do NOT use a mixture for this step.
  • Pour into an angel food cake pan. Run a knife through the batter to remove any large bubbles. Bake according to the cake mix directions. Let cool one hour.
  • Run a knife around the edge of the pan, invert on a cake plate and remove from pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if you wish, and serve.


Store leftover cake in an air tight container. This is a big hit in the fall.

    OH MY GOD!!! This is absolutely one of the BEST angel food cakes I have ever made, and it is hard to be chocolate....... I have made this several times and my husband even LOVES it and asks for it. I try to make very healthy and low fat desserts, more for myself, but when my husband who never eats "good for you desserts" asks for it, well you know it is AWESOME!!!! Also, no need for cool whip or anything if you don't want! This cake lasts maybe 2 days at my house, and it is just my husband and I. LOVE IT and thank you for the wonderful recipe!
