  • Dissolve yeast in the warm water. Add to other dough ingredients. Stir in sifted flour. Pat into 5 or 6 greased pie pans - let sit for 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, mix together filling ingredients. Spread a thin layer of filling on top of dough in each pie pan. Here you may add fruit, if desired, such as canned apricots, apples, peaches, pitted prunes, etc. (well drained) adding more filling on top of the fruit, or you can just divide the filling evenly among the pie plates for a plain kuchen.
  • Bake at 325 degrees F. for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Special Equipment Needed


I like my kuchen plain sprinkled with a little cinnamon and sugar prior to baking. But, I know that both apples and peaches taste delicious in this recipe. You can add the sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar to all the pies, or none of them - just adds a little extra!
