  • Add the sugar and eggs to the flour until blended. Add the shortening, sour cream with baking soda, baking powder, vanilla, and salt. Mix together with the flour until the dough is stiff enough to roll. It is important to not handle the dough too long or get it too stiff.
  • Drop dough on baking sheet.
  • Bake in hot oven, 425 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.

These sugar cookies are moist and tender and are the only ones my family will eat. They make terrific Christmas cutout cookies and decorate nicely. This was a recipe Samantha, a great-grandmother, used, dating back to the late 1800s or early 1900s.
