  • Thaw frozen bread dough using quick thaw method. Brown sausage with diced onion; drain. Add oregano, salt and pepper. Cool. Add mozzarella cheese. Mix and set aside. Heat cream cheese and water over low heat until melted, stirring constantly. Cool. Fold into sausage mixture & mix thoroughly.
  • Roll 1 bread dough loaf out into a 10x8 inch rectangle, on floured surface (or roll out on surface dusted with cornmeal, if preferred). Spread half of sausage filling over dough to 1 inch from sides. Roll up jelly-roll style and seam ends. Slice into 1 1/2 inch rolls and place on greased baking sheet. Repeat with other loaf and rest of filling. Let rise 1/2 hour in warm, draft-free area. Sprinkle rolls with parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 20-30 minutes at 350 degrees.


Serve for breakfast OR serve as an appetizer with marinara sauce. Will freeze well; reheat at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. My daughter has requested these rolls every year for her birthday for many years -- even now that she is a mother...! I am sure that she will make it a tradition for her children’s birthdays too!
