  • Place brisket in roasting pan and brush all over with liquid smoke. Combine the salt and spices in a bowl and mix well. Rub the spices into the meat with your hands, coating the whole thing.
  • Cover the roasting pan and bake until the brisket is fort-tender, about 4 hours at 325 degrees F. Remove the pan from the oven and let the meat cool just enough to handle, but not cold. (It's easier to shred when it's a little warm.) Use 2 forks to pull the meat apart in the pan juices. (You may want to use your fingers)
  • Make Sauce: Heat oil in heavy saucepan. Add onion, garlic, cumin & cayenne. Saute over medium heat about 7 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer, stirring frequently, until slightly thickened, about 12 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes. Put shredded meat in a crock-pot and pour sauce over, stirring well. Heat in crock-pot.


You can freeze the meat or refrigerate until ready to use, without the sauce mixed in. Then heat sauce in microwave, if cold, before mixing into meat.
