Sweet Cran-Apple Pot Roast with Gravy

  • Heat oil in pot or Dutch oven with lid. Salt and pepper roast. Brown on all sides. Add remaining ingredients (except flour). Stir thoroughly. Add just enough water to cover roast completely. Stir again.
  • Place lid tightly and simmer over medium low heat, stirring occasionally about 3 1/2 hours. Remove roast to serving platter, cover and allow to sit. Roast will be fork tender, so you will need to use a slotted spoon to remove.
  • Add flour to pan juices. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Boil until thickened. Slice roast and serve with gravy.

Special Equipment Needed


I like to add carrots to the roast during the last 30 minutes of cooking time as it gives them a sweet delicious flavor. Just remove carrots to serving bowl and cover alongside the roast prior to making gravy.
