  • 1. Place taco shells on cookie sheet and place in cold oven. Set oven to 300°F so shells warm up while preparing the rest of the skillet dinner.
  • 2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef. While meat is browning, chop onion, pepper and tomatoes; set aside. When meat is done browning, drain well; add taco seasoning and water to beef in skillet. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Add chopped veggies, stirring to mix; simmering another 5 minutes. Sprinkle cheese over meat/veggie mixture. Simmer for 5 more minutes.
  • 3. Remove taco shells from oven. Crumble shells with hands, sprinkling over top of cheese. Do not mix in. Shells stay crispy longer if on top. Serve, using spatula to remove portions from skillet to plate.

Special Equipment Needed

We love tacos, but found this method to be so much faster, easier, and most of all, so very much neater. (Tacos aren't the easiest or neatest foods to eat, especially in front of others.) With the skillet method, clean up is a snap. And, best of all, the taste is actually better than eating regular tacos. I can't explain why, but my whole family agreed they'd rather have it done in the skillet. Ground turkey may be used to substitute for the ground beef if desired.
