  • Salt and pepper steaks to taste. Whisk together egg and buttermilk in one bowl, place flour in another.
  • Dip steaks in buttermilk mixture, then place in flour, gently pressing the steak into the flour. Repeat this step once.
  • Place steaks in hot shortening and cook until golden brown. Drain steaks on paper towels. Use the leftover flour to make cream gravy. Enjoy!


I live in Texas where chicken fried steak is a staple of any cook. I got this recipe from a favorite restaraunt where I live. It's great with fries, mashed, or baked potatoes.
