  • Make cake mix as directed except sub the eggs for the 4 egg yolks and stir in ground almonds.
  • Mix batter between 3 round 9" pans *greased and floured. Very important hand whisk egg whites until foamy. Add in sugar and whisk until you have stiff peaks-GENTLY stir in sliced almonds. Spread mixture over cake batter in each pan. Bake as directed. Cool completely; remove from pans carefully.
  • Whip cream, sugar and vanilla together until peaks form. Place 1st layer of cake (save the prettiest layer for the top) on a serving plate spread cream mix over-repeat with second layer. Melt chocolate over LOW heat (double boiler preferred). Stir in butter. Drizzle mix over top layer. Chill until and after served.

Special Equipment Needed


This cake took me 2 tries, but it is well worth it. It is WONDERFUL. I took it to Christmas and no one could believe I had baked it. It looks like something only a pro could make, but it sounds more intimidating than it is.
