  • In large bowl beat shortening, butter and sugars until mixture is creamy. Add eggs beating until blended. Add vanilla extract and pudding mix, beat until blended.
  • In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, beating until blended. Add chocolate and nuts and combine.
  • Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and place on lightly greased baking sheets and press to flatten slightly.
  • Bake in 350 degrees F oven for 8-10 minutes, depending on desired browning.


This is the most requested cookie at my house. Another variation is to add 1 cup quick oats and decrease the flour to 1 1/4 cup. Then add 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. I have also tried it with 1 cup dried sweetened cranberries instead of nuts. I like to make my cookies one pan at a time to insure even baking. If your oven runs cooler than mine, you might have to raise the baking temperature to 375 degrees F.
