  • In a large soup pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add meat, stirring until browned and cooked through. Stir in onion soup mix and diced tomatoes, coating the pieces of meat.
  • In a measuring cup, stir in packaged au jus mix to 1 cup water, and add to pot. Stir in remaining 2 cups water. Cover and bring to slow boil. Lower heat to simmer.
  • Drain and rinse canned vegetables and beans, and add to soup. Add red wine. Cover and simmer for 2 hours.

Special Equipment Needed


This is simple and delicious! You may adjust the vegetables according to your families' preferences. Fresh vegetables are great in this recipe also. My family likes noodles in soup, so I add about 1 cup or so of uncooked noodles to the soup about 10 minutes before serving, checking to make sure they are cooked through and tender. French bread or a grilled sandwich makes this a great meal for cold weather!
