  • Preheat the oven to 365°F. In a large mixing bowl combine butter, both sugars, vanilla, egg, baking soda, and salt. Once combined, mix together by hand. When it is evenly mixed, slowly add the flour (a little at a time). Next, add the walnuts and mix thoroughly. Finally, add the chocolate chips and stir together.
  • Drop teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheet. (Leave enough space between so the cookies don't get stuck to each other when baking.)
  • Put in the oven and bake for 11-12 minutes; they should be a little brown around the edges. Take out of the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a couple minutes, then transfer to a wire cooking rack. Store at room temperature in a sealed container for best flavor.

Notes

The first time I used this recipe, I used my electric mixer and added ingredients one at a time. The cookies turned out just okay. The second time, I tried mixing by hand with my spatula and added most ingredients at once...what a difference! Much better the second time around!! Also, when I am in a healthier mood; I will substitute applesauce for the butter. (Doesn’t taste quite as good, but I don't feel so guilty after eating them) :)
